Whether they are teaching as a grader, recitation leader, lab instructor, or lead instructor, most graduate student instructors find themselves engaging in a few core teaching activities. This semester, in Graduate Teaching Toolkit, the Drake Institute’s workshop series for graduate instructors, we’ll explore core competencies that every GTA needs, including grading, facilitating discussions with students, and supporting students as they engage in group work.
All Toolkit workshops are designed to support participants’ professional development, engage them in reflecting on, discussing, and sharing their teaching practices, and build community between graduate instructors on campus who are passionate about improving their teaching. All graduate students, regardless of teaching experience, are welcome to attend.
As a result of attending GTA Toolkit, participants will:
- apply evidence-based principles of teaching and learning to their teaching context
- reflect on their teaching practices, as these relate to the Toolkit topic of the month
- discuss and share teaching practices with a supportive community of fellow graduate student instructors
